Wall Street watchdog signals new hurdles for clearing brokers’ records

From Chicago Tribune: (Reuters) – Wall Street’s industry-funded watchdog issued new guidance late Monday that gives arbitrators more information about their responsibilities in a process that allows securities brokers to request the removal of customer complaints from their public records.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) issued the guidance just days before a group of lawyers for investors plan to issue a report finding fault with the regulator’s system for clearing complaints from brokers’ records, a process known as “expungement.”

Mayor files public record request against council member, seeks damages

From Cleveland.com: OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio — Mayor Robert Blomquist has filed a public records request against Councilwoman at Large Ann Marie Donegan. He is seeking emails related to a health fair for senior citizens she organized with another council member.

To date, Donegan has not provided the requested emails, and Blomquist said he will seek further legal action.

From Des Moines Register: Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald has provided more than 7,100 of his emails to a federal agency as part of a legal dispute with the U.S. government that involves a $7 billion wireless first-responder network.

From Bennington Banner: RUTLAND (AP) — The Vermont Supreme Court on Friday upheld a lower court ruling giving the Rutland Herald newspaper access to records connected to an investigation into the Rutland city police officers who were disciplined for viewing and sending pornography at work.

The justices denied an appeal by the city, which raised concerns about the privacy rights of city employees.

From Wicked Local: Danvers — Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office will hold an educational forum on the Open Meeting Law in Danvers from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 in the Health Professions and Student Services Building at North Shore Community College’s Danvers campus, 1 Ferncroft Road.

This forum is part of a broad effort by the AG’s office to assist public bodies in understanding and complying with the requirements of the Open Meeting Law. State, local, regional and county public bodies are required to comply with the Open Meeting Law.
