2018 Sunshine Week NFOIC state activities from some of our members

 

Colorado – The Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition hosts the Sunshine Laws Workshops & Awards Luncheon, featuring White House Insights from Eli Stokols, MSNBC Political Analyst. Idaho – The Idaho Press Club and Idahoans for Openness in Government will have a Sunshine Week event on Tuesday, March 13th, at which the top leaders of the Idaho House and Senate, from both parties, will speak at a luncheon and answer on-the-record questions from the press about the current hot-and-heavy happenings of this year’s legislative session. This comes as several pieces of legislation are moving through that actually enhance access to certain public records and meetings in Idaho, in small but positive steps.

Indiana – The Center for International Media Law and Policy Studies at Indiana University, Society of Professional Journalists and the Indiana Coalition for Open Government will offer a free day-long workshop on open data and government on Saturday, March 17th. Iowa – The Iowa Freedom of Information Council will host a breakfast reception on Thursday, March 15th at Iowa capital for members of the Iowa Legislature.

Louisiana – The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana  will release daily episodes of recommendations and public pronouncements throughout the week. http://parlouisiana.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Sunshine-Week-2018.pdf

Texas – The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas will be celebrating during the entire month of March to highlight their many activities aimed at letting the sun shine on government and opening up access to public records.

Washington, D.C. – The D.C. Open Government Coalition, the American University School of Communications and its Journalism Division, along with SPJ’s D.C. Professional Chapter and The Washington Post will host the 8th annual D.C. Open Government Summit on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Bar Association offices, 1050 Connecticut Ave., NW.  http://www.dcogc.org/node/4925
