IRS Charged $239,400 for Fighting FOIA

 SAN FRANCISCO (CN) – The Internal Revenue Service must pay $239,400 in attorneys' fees after losing a lawsuit over access to digital records, a federal judge ruled Friday.

     Public.Resource.org, a nonprofit that makes government records accessible to the public, sued the IRS in June 2013 for failing to comply with a Freedom of Information Act request.  Continue…

IRS hands over tax-exempt training materials to nonprofit publisher

From Accounting Web: The congressional committees investigating the Tea Party scandal – including the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chaired by Darrell Issa (R-CA) – aren’t the only ones trying to get their hands on sensitive IRS documents. In response to a lawsuit initiated by Tax Analysts, a nonprofit publisher of tax information and expert analysis, the IRS has released almost 3,000 pages of training materials used by its Exempt Organizations (EO) division, most of them dating from 2012.

Judicial Watch sues IRS for stonewalling on tea party FOIA

From The Washington Times: The government watchdog Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, insisting the agency release previously demanded documents made under a Freedom of Information Act request that would clarify how conservative groups were screened for nonprofit status.

Judicial Watch filed the suit on Oct. 9 but announced it Tuesday. President Tom Fitton said in a written statement that the suit was “designed to cut through the Obama administration cover-up of its IRS scandal.”
