Editorial: Koch schooled NM, UNM on good, open government

There is perhaps no better way to honor a lifelong public servant, especially a fiscally responsible public servant, than to do the math.

While Jamie Koch makes his living as an insurance executive, over the past 50 years he has crafted a second career, making New Mexico a fairer, more open and accountable place to live. It started in the Legislature in 1968 and included passing the state’s first subdivision regulation, sponsoring the state Open Meetings Act and writing the Inspection of Public Records Act, which spells out the public’s right to access government records.
