County recorder: FOIA a burden on local government

From pantagraph.com: BLOOMINGTON, Illinois — The state law that makes public records accessible to people has created a burden on government staff and misses its intended goal, according to one McLean County elected official.

“The FOIA requests I receive are inappropriate. The law is an example of a high-ranking official trying to make points with the public when in actuality it makes things harder for local government,” McLean County Recorder Lee Newcom said of the state’s revised Freedom of Information Act launched three years ago by Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
