How would you rate South Dakota's open records/open government laws? What information do you think should or should not be available?
South Dakota ranked worst among all 50 states for open government in the Chicago-based Better Government Association's 2008 analysis of each state's law. Despite minor improvements since then, I believe the objective findings of this award-winning investigative watchdog organization still stand: We're at the bottom of the heap.
