This brochure includes a summary of state freedom of information laws, including the sunshine law, the public records law, the criminal justice records law, the Colorado jail records law and the open meetings law. For each law, the brochure describes the legislative intent, how the law has been interpreted in the courts and information on violations. Procedures for protesting closed meetings or other violations of law are described. The brochure includes a sample request for access to court hearings and information about requesting access for cameras to courtrooms.
