We've selected a few sites that we hope will help you as you decide where to go and what to do while in Seattle (in addition to attending the conference, of course.) In no way is this intended as a definitive list, but merely some sites we found informative and helpful.

Dining

Seattle is a city of great restaurants. Since we can't hope to list them all, the following are directories, not individual restaurants.

  • Marriott Seattle Waterfront—Hotel reservations must be received on or before Monday, April 9, 2007 in order to receive the NFOIC-discounted rate of $179.00 per night. The spectacular NFOIC hotel rates are applicable the two days immediately preceding and the two days immediately following the conference, as availability allows.

Attractions and the Arts

Seattle offers a slew of arts and attractions. Following are a few ideas.

  • Space Needle—Built in 1962, the Space Needle served as the symbol of that year's World's Fair. It has since become the symbol of Seattle, and one of the most recognizable structures in the world.
  • Seattle Center—We are the nation's best gathering place. Supported by the people of Seattle, we are home to the finest cultural and educational organizations, sports teams, festivals, community programs and entertainment facilities.
  • Pike Place Fish Market—We are the Seattle fresh fish company that everyone talks about. Besides offering only the best quality, freshest seafood, our dedication to having fun and creating excitement while we work makes us "world famous."

  • Seattle Symphony—The Seattle Symphony was founded in 1903, and is one of the oldest and largest cultural institutions in the Pacific Northwest.

Downtown Seattle and Business

Seattle has a vibrant downtown; following are some of the ins and outs, as well as some of the folks who are working in its behalf.

  • Downtown Seattle Association—To champion a healthy, vibrant urban core.
  • Seattle Chamber of Commerce—Provides resources for businesses and individuals in the greater Seattle area, including business links, area events, and information on moving to or visiting the Seattle area.
  • Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel— In order to accommodate light rail coming in 2009, the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel must be retrofitted and upgraded for use by both rail and bus. This requires the tunnel to be closed for up to two years, as of September 24, 2005.

Government Sites

Infrastructure, public safety, transportation, and the like.

  • Seattle.gov—The official site of the city of Seattle.
  • Seattle Area Traffic—A map of current freeway traffic conditions for Seattle and surrounding areas; includes links to traffic cams, incident reports, mountain pass reports, etc.
  • Metro Online—Provides bus, vanpool, carpool, bicycle and related information for King County (including Seattle).
