NFOIC seeks full-time executive director

Print this page

As many of you know by now, one of the benefits of our new NFOIC grant is that we devised a way for the organization to have the support for a full-time Executive Director, which means I go back to being a faculty member. So help us by sending us great applicants!

from Charles Davis
Executive Director, NFOIC

Want to make state and local government more transparent and accountable? Here's your chance.

The National Freedom of Information Coalition—the national headquarters of the state transparency movement—seeks an energetic, visionary Executive Director to continue what we've started.

If you care about open government and want to shape the future of a leading government transparency organization, the NFOIC could provide the ideal outlet for your creativity and drive.

Our Executive Director position is equal parts administrator, organizer, expert and advocate for freedom of information. It takes a little bit of all of that, and more, to run a non-profit group comprised of state coalitions all over the country. Based at the world-renowned Missouri School of Journalism in a beautiful, state-of-the-art office in The Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri, the Executive Director administers grants, oversees pass-through funds to state freedom of information groups, coordinates an annual conference, publicizes the efforts of the NFOIC and its affiliates and works daily to strengthen the work of its member coalitions. The University of Missouri is located in Columbia, Missouri, consistently ranked as one of America's most livable college towns.

The Executive Director also should be eager to seek additional funding for the NFOIC, to work with a 13-member board of directors to chart the future of the organization, and to manage the day-to-day work of three staff members. It's a job that demands a great deal of passion, energy and the ability to juggle a dozen tasks at once while simultaneously taking a phone call on an access issue from a reporter.

The successful candidate will be a team player with an ability to lead by influence and build consensus. She or he will have a proven ability to think strategically and manage complex projects from development to completion, and strong organizational skills.
