The National Freedom of Information Coalition and the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition convened the 2015 FOI Summit on Friday, October 9th, and Saturday, October 10th at The Curtis hotel in downtown Denver, Colorado.
Each year, the FOI Summit features ideas, experiences and discussions about the latest issues and trends around freedom of information laws, policies and practices at the state and local levels across the U.S. The summit delivers two days of panel discussions, presentations, and group interaction featuring experts, advocates and champions of transparency and open government.
Included in the summit is the keynote luncheon highlighted by the 2015 induction of a worthy individual into the State Open Government Hall of Fame, a tradition NFOIC launched in collaboration with the Society of Professional Journalists a decade ago. This year, veteran newspaper editor and FOI pioneer Pete Weitzel was inducted into the 2015 State Open Government Hall of Fame.
Karen Kaiser, SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at The Associated Press was this year's keynote speaker. Introduction of Ms. Kaiser was by Sarah Nordgren, also of the AP and a NFOIC Board Member.
NFOIC also announced its 2016 officers and new board members during the coalition's annual meeting also convened at the FOI Summit.
NFOIC wishes to thank everyone who gave their time, engergy and ideas to this year's summit and especially appreciative of those who joined us in Denver.
We'll include the presentations on an updated summit agenda page.
